Nothing like a week in the woods.......

We have been home for almost a week now and I think that it's safe to say that I have caught up on the laundry from camping and I think that we have gotten everything back where it belongs. We take the kids camping to Keji every August and it is always a blast and we never want to come home. We headed down on the 9th for a week with Jeff's brother Peter and his family. We rarely see the kids as they love being at the playground, riding their bikes and just having time to play with their cousins. We had lots of fun hiking ( Jeff and the kids and I did one that was 6.5 km), swimming, kayaking, canoeing, biking, singing "Down by the Bay", and roasting marshmallows. The kids loved seeing all the wildlife from deers to owls, turtles and raccoons. We had some HUGE ice-creams at the canteen......none of which Georgia was going to share......she loves her ice-cream. We had a couple of wicked rain storms, one with thunder and lightning but we stayed dry and made the most of it those days. Our meals were nothing short of amazing....we BBQ'ed, had Indian chicken, chili, spaghetti, donairs, tacos and turkey casserole. We never had leftovers as Jeff and Peter would eat it all. I don't think I ever was hungry.....always full!!! My Mom and brother and sister-in law made it down on one of the wetter days to visit. It was nice to get to spend some time with them and show my mom a little bit of Keji.....maybe next year she'll come camp for a day or two..... all in all it was an awesome time had by all......Jeff and I might try to make a weekend getaway back this fall if life slows down a bit. I don't know if we are going to make it down for Thanksgiving or not.....part of me wants to go for the pumpkins and it's so beautiful then but the other part of me just wants to stay home and have some of Jeff's awesome turkey dinner......who knows......guess we'll see if the kids bring it up or not. Here are a few of the pictures.......we took a ton.....I haven't gotten them on facebook yet but if you are friends with Jeff you can check them all out on his........I had a lot of fun playing with my camera and lenses while away!! We are off to Jessica's soccer tournament tonight and tomorrow......glad for the beautiful weather as the games happen rain or shine!!!

Georgia traded her bottle for the cheesie......

This happened a few times during the week,
tuckered out from being on the go all the time

Sarah LOVED the water lilies....love how this
shot turned out......

Taking a little hike break......

Doing questions on the GPS.......you get it for
a certain hike and it is full of information and
asks you questions all along the hike......the kids
loved it!!

Always curious in the backpack

Yay I've been waiting for this update! Sounds like a GREAT trip, I LOVE getting outdoors. Growing up, we always did 4 or 5-day long backpacking trips, but nothing beats my 2-week trek through Nepal and the Himalayas with my dad!
Great pictures, your kids always look so happy. What a fun childhood they must be having, you guys are such awesome parents, thanks for your example to me!
Your meals sound amazing! One advantage of camping over backpacking is how great you can eat! Although, when you've been carrying your pack all day, NOTHING tastes better than Ramen noodles and instant oatmeal! I never camped until I was older...probably 17 or so, and I was impressed at how fancy you can eat when you're camping vs. carrying it all with you on your back!
Anyway, sorry this is long! Hope to chat SOON!

Even though I've seen most of the pictures on Jeff's facebook site, it's nice to have the update on your vacation. It's nice to have great memories of your summer and even better to have the pictures to go along with it. Great shots!

Looks like you had a great time camping. I was just thinking about how much fun we had camping at Keji last summer. It's a fun place! Madison had her first day of school today. When do your kids start?

Great pictures, Kathy! Looks like you guys had loads of fun in the wilderness. I can't get over all the good food you made while in the woods...I thought it was all about hot dogs and canned beans hahaha! And marshmallows of course. Using the GPS on the hike seems pretty cool...could you get those from the campsite or something? Good way to keep the kids occupied as well I guess. Hope everything is going well with you guys!
