So having 5 kids means that sometimes life is wild. Sometimes more wild then you want it to be or need it to be. Last night was no exception.
We had gotten home from a night at the soccer fields so I wanted the 4 big kids to grab a quick bath- 2 up and 2 down......things appeared to be going well for awhile.....until I heard the HUGE shatter. All of a sudden Sarah was screaming and freaking out hysterically about the glass in the hall, blood everywhere and Jessica was hurt, really hurt and I had to get up there FAST. I have never heard the panic in her voice like I did last night and I ran as fast as my legs could carry me up the stairs. I got to the top of the stairs to find glass everywhere and Jessica standing in the bathroom with blood dripping down her. First thing I addressed was where did the glass come from because at this point I just wasn't thinking.......the bathroom door. So I glanced over and sure enough one of the panes was completely broken out. Not good. Next as I'm assessing Jessica and trying to calm her down I'm noticing that she has HUGE chunks and gashes in her arm. This is when I get Sarah to get her father FAST......I also ran to the top of the stairs and yelled too.....I don't know the he understood at that point how fast I needed him. He comes up and is asking what happened while I'm trying to "casually so Jessica won't notice" tell him that we need to GET to the hospital. He wasn't getting it so I just blurt it out. Jessica at this point has been pretty calm (not usually like her) and really just wants to stay home with some band aids. Not an option. Jeff gets her on our bed as she is getting pale and starts to play doctor, checking for glass and wrapping her up. I run out to get Jeff's mom so we can head to emerge and try to reassure Sarah that Jessica isn't going to die........I think this SCARED her big time...she was pretty convinced this was the end of the road for her sister.Jeff and I take Jessica to the hospital, she is assessed and we spend the next 4 hours there. We got into a bed within 30 minutes and they froze her up pretty fast it was just waiting for the stitches. 19 stitches later we are out of there looking like we had a rough night. Jessica is feeling it more and more today and also has one wound where the skin was hanging so it was left to heal as they had nowhere to stitch.Thank goodness it wasn't as deep as the others. We have it covered hoping to keep infection away. It was SCARY.....something I never care to experience again.
What happened???? I'm sure you are curious.....I sure the heck was. So the girls were in the bath, Sarah gets out and decides as she leaves she is going to shut the bathroom door against Jessica's wishes to keep it open. Not only did she shut the door but she decides to stand on the outside and hold it shut. Panic kicks in for Jessica so she jumps out of the tub and starts pulling on the door......trying to do this dripping wet. All of a sudden Sarah lets go of the door and steps back which somehow caused Jessica to slip and her 2 arms go through the glass pane on the door. I am grateful that it didn't have worse consequences then it did. Sarah had a few small cuts but thankfully nothing like her sister. I'm hoping this has been a learning experience for them both and that maybe they'll get along for at least the next 7-10 days until the stitches are out. I did take a few pictures at the hospital on my phone.....if you have a really weak stomach you might not want to look too much further......

Hanging out in the ER.......all wrapped up from Daddy still....
was hanging off....it will somehow heal on it's own....and
we are keeping it well covered!!!

stitches are around her wrist with some cuts on her hand

Ouch, ouch, OUCH!!! I can't believe how calm she looks in all of the pictures. I wish we were close enough to bring her a get well soon treat. Give her some hugs and kisses from us! XOXOXO
Those pictures still make my stomach turn, and I've seen them a bunch today! So glad jessica is okay, you had me worried last night... hopefully this will have the sisters getting along for good from now on, think bigger then 7-10 days. I told jessica today that you gave me stitches once too, so it's a thing sisters do, right?? Mine was the eye brow i believe!!
Yikes!!!!! That is sick...the poor thing. I hope she recovers soon. Lots of tlc.
Ouch!!! Poor girl! She does look so calm! I hope she heals super fast and milk it for all it's worth!
Wow, what a story! She looks SO sweet sitting there in her bed with that little smile, what a sweetheart. Get well soon!!!

HO-LY CRAP!
Those are quite the battle wounds. Hope she feels better soon and I hope you get to catch up on sleep.
Awww... poor Jessica! Ouch! Hope she heals fast. Glad Charlotte was able to watch the other kids while you all were at the hospital.
That looked like it hurt. Hope she feels better soon.I hate it when scary stuff like that happens. I'm not good in a crisis.
Wow! All I can say really! Jessica looks like it's just like any other day... insane! I hope that she heals quickly! And I hope you get some sleep tonight!?
Did you go to Dartmouth General?
WOW!!!
I have no idea how you dealt with that. I am so glad that Jessica is okay. Those pictures definitely made my heart hurt.
Wow. I would say the calmness would be shock. What an ordeal. We hope she gets better quickly.
OH my gosh!
I'm glad she's ok. What a night that must have been.
PS Thanks for the weak stomach warning!
awwwwww JESS! That looks so painful! I have to say I almost shed a tear for Sarah too- it reminded me of that church video where the little girl gives blood to her brother and then thinks she's going to die (except Sarah kinda' took the blood & thought her sister was gonna die... whatever...same sorrow ) Squishes for those 2 hooligans and a great big "SETTLE DOWN ROWDIES! YOU'RE GONNA GET HURT!"
- love Melissa : )
What a family adventure....thanks for keeping me in the dark so I could sleep and take your little ones today....hope Jessica heals quickly. Also hope that the two girls hugged when this was all over!!
Wow! I hope never to experience this! Hope Jessica heals up quickly!
When Kaylee was three she fell at daycare and split her lip open. Three stitches later and I was a mess. Good for you for holdig it together. Poor little Jessica needs her sister to wait on her hand and foot this week. Hope she heals quickly. That first picture of her eating her popcycle looks like a mini Karen it's crazy!
Ouch! Wow...what a crazy story! It sounds like one of those things that couldn't happen again even if they tried! Glad she is okay and hope she gets feeling better.
